TRAINING HYPOXIA: HOW IT WORKS?
The hypoxia training (or simulation of altitude) consists in breathing a less oxygen-dense air, like that which one finds at altitude, in order to trigger in the organism physiological adaptations which will make it more powerful.
- A development of respiratory capacities (Vo2max)
- Improved oxygen transport by erythropoiesis activation (EPO) which leads to increased red blood cell production (hematocrit levels), hemoglobin concentration, development of blood capillaries, ...
- Better energy efficiency by activating exchanges within mitochondria
- Improved blood and muscle buffering capacity.
Discovered at the Mexico Olympics, the effects of hypoxia training are now well known to high-level athletes who have integrated altitude simulation into their preparation program, such as Olympic multi-medal swimmer Michael Phelps.
HYPOXICO, AN ALTERNATIVE TO CHOICE THE ALTITUDE COURSE
The sportsman who is used to going to Font-Romeu, Tignes or even Kenya to "redo red blood cells", will find in training hypoxia an alternative of choice to the traditional stage in altitude, which we know today that It must take place at least at 2800 m altitude to be effective.
3 weeks are enough to induce the biological adaptations needed to improve the performance up to + 6% gain in VO2max, + 15% in locomotion savings, + 10% in recovery, ...
The athlete benefits from the positive effects of altitude on his body, without even having to travel in the mountains, without reducing the intensity of his training, without the problems of travel, accommodation ...
NEW PROTOCOLS FOR EVEN MORE PERFORMANCE
Many studies and testimonials have shown that when combining intermittent sustained physical exertion and hypoxia (3 or 4 sessions of 35/45 minutes per week on a cardiovascular device at 3000 m simulated altitude), effects of training on muscle structure and energy metabolism are multiplied (double stress).
ALSO FOR ALTITUDE COMPETITIONS OR HIGH MOUNTAIN SHIPMENTS
The hypoxia training is also indicated to pre-acclimate before an event that takes place in altitude, as to prepare a stay or an expedition in high mountain.
For this type of objective, the preparation also includes sessions at ultra-high altitude (3850 m).
Hypoxia training has helped many athletes from different disciplines such as Dakar auto and motorcycle drivers (including Stéphane Peterhansel and Cyril Desprès, winners in 2016), MMA fighters (Francis N'Gannou), pro cyclists (Thomas Vaubourzeix , Julien Duval of the AG2R), ultra-runners (Olivier Romain winner of the Ultra of the Pyrenees in August 2017, Clément Guibert finisher Hardrock 100 July 2017), François Suchel (expedition in the Himalayas), ...
BODY-UP offers a complete high-end equipment, with protocols adapted to each athlete and its objectives, an altitude generator that separates the molecules of O2 and delivers a rarer oxygen air, exercise mask, pulse oximeter to monitor oxygen saturation and heart rate.
